A Brief History of Spanish Rock

Rock N’ Roll was brought to Spain by the US army when Spain agreed to build American bases in Spain, but Spain didn’t give birth to rock until 1967, when the first rock band, ‘Los Canarios’, was created. 

Influence on Society

Spanish rock hasn’t had as much influence on society as happened in other places of the world. It had some relevance during the times of the ‘Movida Madrileña’ in the 70s and 80s, but got substituted by pop and pop-rock soon.  Nowadays, Spanish rock has developed into a more alternative style (really close to pop). Ska and punk rock are still relevant in the North, especially in Navarra and País Vasco.
