A brief history of Spanish Rock

Rock N’ Roll was brought to Spain by the US army when Spain agreed to build American bases in Spain, but Spain didn’t give birth to rock until 1967, when the first rock band, ‘Los Canarios’, was created.  With the fall of the dictatorship in 1975 and the beginning of the Democratic Transition in 1979 came what is known as the ‘Movida Madrileña’ a counterculture movement that cause a revolution in Spanish music. Then, rock music mixed with pop too, and some of the most important bands, such as Radio Futura, Loquillo or Tequila, were created.

Here’s a documentary about the birth and evolution of rock music in Spain made by RTVE. Watch and enjoy!
