Punk was all about being angry and angst and being the best musicians wasn’t really the goal of bands like the Sex Pistols. In punk music, you had to live every single chord like it was the last, the point was to give a message and have a great time. However punk bands weren’t only against the establishment but also against everybody else, that was their essence.

In the 80s, punk went through a transition in which emotions took a really important part. ‘Emo’ had a huge impact during this time. It was born from punk and, unlike Punk; it gave a lot of importance to melodies and emotions. They still had that anger, but they also mixed other feelings.

The mixture of Punk and Emo developed what we nowadays know as Punk Rock, a genre that mixes the essence of Punk with the melodies of Emo. It is called ‘Sophisticated Punk’.
