Influence on society
The folk in the United States was a way to express criticism and discontent especially with the Vietnam War. The folk audience consisted mainly of leftist activists and progressive university , who considered to rock and pop genres as superficial and uncommitted .
The most important and influential of this new wave of folk-protest songwriters was Bob Dylan, whose complex lyrics not only provided a commentary on contemporary social issues but on his own life experiences too.
A vehicle to express criticism
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man ?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand ?
Yes, how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned ?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
