Queen was a British rock band formed in 1970 by Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), John Deacon (bass guitar) and Roger Taylor (drums, vocals). They were originally influenced by hard rock, heavy metal and progressive rock but the band developed a more conventional rock style. They are considered one of the best bands of all time, Freddie Mercury becoming an icon in the history of music. They have released 18 number one albums, 18 number one singles, and 10 number one DVDs. They have also sold over 300 million records. They received the Outstanding Contribution to British Music Award from the British Phonographic Industry in 1990, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

The Beatles was a British rock band formed in 1960 by John Lennon (vocals, guitar, keyboards, harmonica), Paul McCartney (vocals, bass guitar, guitar, keyboards, drums), George Harrison (guitar, sitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, percussion, vocals). They were originally influenced by skiffle, beat, 50s rock n’ roll; but they experimented with different rock genres. Lennon and McCartney are both considered as a part of the socio-cultural revolution in the 60s. The Beatles are the best-selling band in history, with estimated sales of over 600 million records worldwide and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. They are also considered the best band of all time.



 

The Rolling Stones are a British rock band formed in 1962 by Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass), Charlie Watts (drums) and Ian Stewart (piano), who was removed from the official line-up in 1963 but continued playing with them. It has been introduced several times as ‘the best rock n’ roll band of all time’. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004; and their estimated sales are above 200 million. They have released twenty-nine studio albums, eighteen live albums and numerous compilations. In 2012, the band celebrated its 50th anniversary.



 

AC/DC are an Australian hard-rock band formed in 1973 by Malcolm and Angus Young. They are also considered pioneers of heavy metal, although they always considered their music ‘rock n’ roll’. When Bon Scott (original lead singer) died in 1980, the band considered disbanding but thanks to Scott’s parents’ support the decided to find a new vocalist, Brian Johnson. Later that year, the band released ‘Back in Black’, which was a tribute to Bon Scott. The album brought them huge success and became their all-time best-seller. AC/DC had sold more than 200 million records worldwide, including 71.5 million albums in the United States alone, making them the tenth-best-selling band in the United States and one of the world's best-selling bands of all time. AC/DC ranked fourth on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock” and in 2010, AC/DC were ranked number 23 in the VH1 list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".


 

Guns N’ Roses are an American hard rock band founded in 1985 by Axl Rose (vocals, piano). The band consists of Axl Rose, Slash (lead guitar), Izzy Stradlin (rhythm guitar), Duff McKagan (bass guitar) and Steven Adler (drums). They have released six studio albums, with sales of more than 100 million records worldwide, making Guns N' Roses one of the world's best-selling bands of all time. They have been credited with reviving the popularity of rock music, at a time when the music world was dominated by dance music and glam metal. Guns N’ Roses was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.


 

Led Zeppelin was an English rock band formed in 1968 by Jimmy Page (guitar), Robert Plant (lead vocals), John Paul Jones (bass guitar, keyboards) and John Bonham (drums). They were originally influenced by blues, folk and psychedelia; but they are recognized as one of the progenitors of heavy metal. Led Zeppelin is considered one of the most successful, innovative, and influential bands of all time. They are one of the best-selling music artists ever; record sales at 200 to 300 million units worldwide. Rolling Stone magazine described them as "the heaviest band of all time", "the biggest band of the Seventies", and "unquestionably one of the most enduring bands in rock history". They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

Jimi Hendrix was an American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He’s considered one of the most influential electric guitarists of all time and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes him as ‘arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music’. ‘The Jimi Hendrix Experience’ was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Rolling Stone ranked the band's three studio albums, Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love, and Electric Ladyland, among the 100 greatest albums of all time, and they ranked Hendrix as the greatest guitarist and the sixth greatest artist of all time.

The Doors was an American rock band formed in 1965 by Jim Morrison (vocals), Ray Manzarek (keyboard), Robby Krieger (guitar) and John Densmore (drums). They were unique and among the most controversial and influential rock acts in the 60s, mostly because of Morrison's lyrics and unpredictable charisma. Three of the band's studio albums were included in Rolling Stone's ‘500 Greatest Albums of All Time’. The band and Morrison are considered important to the counterculture of the 1960s.
