Commercial pop is quite controversy.
The vast majority of people do not consider commercial pop music.
People say that music is a way to feel free and to make people see and fell your own feelings, a way to express yourself. However, the target of this type of music is to sell the most they can using the feelings, not expressing them.
The problem is that nowadays people think that every single pop song is commercial music.
But what do we mean with commercial music?
People use that term to refer to songs that are easily sold or that are made with the purpose to be sold. This would include most pop songs. However, this definition would make almost any song commercial music. Does noncommercial music exist? If that music had not been commercialized we would not have known it.
So, how do we know if a song or artist is commercial or not?
We can say that noncommercial music is the one that has been made not with the purpose of being quickly sold.
We can recognize commercial songs when we hear its chords. If they remind us (or copy) a previous song that has been famous, it is commercial. Also if they follow the same structure that follows each song nowadays we can also say that it is commercial
.
This trick of using things that have been previously used and that people have loved is something that a lot of artists such as the Spanish group ‘Fito y Fitipaldis’ have been using during their hold career.
However, commerciality and quality do not have to be opposite. Actually, we can say that the better the song is, the more it will be sold (it does not have to be this way).
