Influence on society

The counterculture of the 60s was a cultural phenomenon that took place in the US and the UK between the early 60s and mid-70s. It was an anti-establishment movement that grew with the African-American Civil Rights Movement and was against the military intervention of the US in Vietnam.

It also concerned other issues like human sexuality, women's rights, traditional modes of authority, experimentation with psychoactive drugs, and differing interpretations of the American Dream. During this era movements like the Hippie one were created. People believed in love and peace over war and hatred.

Artists like The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin or The Beach Boys had great influence and promoted these pacifist ideologies.
