Brief history of tango

The origins of the tango go back to the brothels of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Motevideo, Uruguay, at the end of the 19th century. It was the combination of different influences: the music of the immigrants coming from the countryside looking for jobs in the big city and the music of European immigrants (especially from Spain and Italy). The first tango lovers were headquartered in The La Boca neighborhood.

The main instruments to play tango music are the bandoneon and the piano. The bandoneon is similar to an accordion and it has become the most characteristic sound of tango.

In the past seeing  women in the streets of Buenos Aires was not that common, that's why when the tango became popular men started dancing it together.
